President
Hi, my name is Katherine Dectis and I am in my first semester pursuing an MS with thesis. I come from a nutrition background, I am interested in the ways food science and nutrition overlap. I obtained my BS in Nutritional Sciences - Dietetics from the University of Arizona in May 2021 and instead of pursuing the dietetic path I opted to pursue a formal training in food science in order to ultimately help create products for industry that are highly palatable, nutritious, and sustainable. I am a member of Dr. Tepper's Sensory Lab Group and in my free time I enjoy walks in nature with my husband and puppy.

Vice President

Hi, I'm Aastha Markan, currently pursuing my Masters in Food Science. I did my undergrad in biology from the University of Mumbai, India and have a background in nutraceuticals. My research interests are mainly in phytochemicals and sensory science. I am excited to be a part of the e-board this year and through the food science GSA, I wish to bring more students with similar interests to interact and grow with each other. Being an international student, I understand the apprehensions faced by new students and I look forward in helping them and bringing more opportunities to the food science community.

Secretary

My name is Santhoshi Lokesh and I am an MBS Food Science student, currently in the second semester of the program. I finished my undergraduate degree in Biotechnology from Ramaiah Institute of Technology, India. I am working in Dr.Yam's lab focusing on the development and testing of an in-house developed antimicrobial. My hobbies are cooking, singing and dancing. Through GSA, I would like to plan and organize events so the food science community can come together and share ideas and discuss innovations in the industry. Please feel free to contact me in case of any questions or concerns.

Treasurer

Hi! My name is Michael and I am pursuing a Masters working in Dr. Takhistov's lab. I completed my B.S. at Northeastern University in Chemistry. My current research is examining the physical and chemical properties of sweeteners to help researchers determine how sweetener substitution will affect taste and mouthfeel in beverages. Having come from a different background, I understand it can be hard and overwhelming to understand all the resources GSA and IFT have to offer. I am hoping that I can provide a bridge between communities so that we can all make the most of our experiences here!

HUGs Chair

Hello! My name is Maud Dias (she/her/hers), I am a first year PhD student working in Dr. Tepper's Sensory Science Lab. My undergraduate degree is in chemistry from Reed College. I am originally from Los Angeles, California. I like to sew, knit, do puzzles, and play video games when I am not doing school. I am hoping to use the GSA to have open discussions and create a dialogue about mental, physical, and spiritual health during these intense times. The world of academia can be difficult, but hopefully with friends and a sense of community it will be better. I am passionate about creating a space for gender and ethnic minorities and queer folks. If you have any questions about the GSA, mental and physical health resources, imposter syndrome, (low key chemistry too), or anything at all please feel free to contact me.

Social Media Chair

Hey there! I am Kathan and I'm currently pursuing my MBS in Food Science. My undergraduate degree is B. Tech in Food Processing and Engineering which I attained from Karunya University, India. I have worked at 4 different mass production facilities for short periods of time upon the projects delegated during my undergraduate studies. My ultimate goal is to own and run a Food Production Industry, with a neat intention of processing food in the most healthy and ethical way possible. I am very happy to be of any assistance and equally thrilled to be a part of this association.
